Pay: £13.45 per hour
Role Overview
As a Mock Patient, you will support the assessment of our medical students by taking part in Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs). During these assessments, students will perform routine, non-invasive clinical examinations to demonstrate their examination skills in a safe and controlled environment.
Your duties for the day will be to act as a patient. You will be given a series of instructions and asked to stand, only do as the student asks, use a walking frame to help you walk from one chair to another, once you get to the other chair, follow the directions of the student and sit down. Once sat the student will request to do a set of observations on you. A BP cuff will be applied, a sats probe (on your finger) and a tympanic thermometer will be put near your ear. Once the student is adding up the total news score you will tidy the observation machine up and leave it ready for the next student to come in and use the equipment, and put the frame back to where it started.
There are no intimate examinations involved in this role. All examinations will be fully chaperoned, and members of the teaching team will be present throughout the day to provide guidance and support. You will also be provided with a detailed scenario ("script") to help you prepare for the role.
